Is Dragonseed jewellery hypoallergenic?
All Dragonseed jewellery is made with the purest metals available. Base metals, such as nickel, are not used in any part. The copper used is pure and solid, therefore not combined with nickel or leads. Nickel is the main metal that people with allergies to jewellery have. The silver is also sterling, argentium or fine, and the gold is 14K or 24K and therefore is hypoallergenic as well. There are few intolerances to these metals, but occasionally they can exist, such as Wilson's disease ( a genetic based disease associated with the body’s inability to distribute or release copper).
How do I care for my Dragonseed jewellery?
Dragonseed Jewellery handcrafted to be durable and ageless, does not require specialized care, although, if desired, there are a few techniques used to keep it shiny and sparkly. Dragonseed handcrafted silver jewellery, as well as the gold jewellery, can be rubbed with a soft jewellers cloth to keep them shiny. More information to care for your copper jewellery is directly below.
In a nutshell, could you tell me about Dragonseed Copper Jewellery?
Only the finest pure solid copper that is uncoated is used in Dragonseed Jewellery. For more information on the health benefits and history of wearing copper see the mineral information page. Copper has the ability to oxidize over time, creating a rich dark antique color. Many prefer to wear it as such. If you would like it shiny again, copper can be cleaned in a mixture of lemon juice and salt, and it instantly cleanses. Certain minerals that are of a more porous nature, may not enjoy this bath, such as sodalite, calcite and lapiz lazuli to name a few (the result will be that they will lose their sheen). But minerals such as quartz, jasper, agate, are unaffected as such. Also, if copper is worn for prolonged periods on the skin, and is in contact with sweat or acids, it will start to oxidize a greenish color. This is a natural and healthy process and can be cleaned with soap and water or the lemon juice mixture if desired. *If any other metallic jewellery you have does this – it means that metal is mixing with your bodily fluids. Copper is a healthy metal to wear.... nickel and base metals are not.
What are the differences between Sterling Silver, Argentium Silver and Fine Silver?
Sterling Silver is 92.5% silver, and the rest is a copper mixture, this is why it tarnishes over time. Argentium Silver is 92.5% silver, and the rest is germanium, which results in a silver that tarnishes much slower. Fine Silver is the purest of the silvers, at 99.9%, it is softer than sterling, and hardly tarnishes. For more information on silver please visit the mineral information page.
What quality of gold do you use, do you use gold-filled wire?
Dragonseed handcrafted gold jewellery is in pure 14K. I do not use gold-filled wire, which is the main choice of gold wire that wireworkers use. Gold filled wire is 5% 14K gold and 95% brass/base metal, and the gold is shaped like a tube around the base metal. Gold plated is just a microscopic coating of 14K Gold over a base metal. Dragonseed Jewellery only uses 14K pure solid wire which is 58.33% gold throughout, commonly used throughout North America.
Why are there two spellings of jewellery/jewelry?
Jewellery is the Canadian spelling. Jewelry is the American spelling.
